My honours project at Stellenbosch University was focused on the re-identification of Cape Platanna individuals.
It allowed me to make use of various machine learning techniques to segment the frogs from their uniform backgrounds. The pipeline used pair-wise comparisons between new and existing individuals in a population. This was done with a scoring system inspired by Douglas Bolger which uses SIFT and RANSAC to match similar points on pairs and checks for geometric consistency.
Overall the pipeline was successful and proved useful on other datasets, like the VeRi dataset.
